For the first time in thirty-two years, the World Cup is being played on American soil — and the United States is right in the thick of it. USA face Australia tomorrow, and if you're in the Louisville area looking for a comfortable chair, a big screen, and a good cigar to go with it, we've got you covered. Here's the tournament in plain English, plus exactly where and when to catch the match.
A World Cup unlike any before it
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the biggest in the tournament's history. It runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and for the first time it's being co-hosted by three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — across sixteen host cities. The field has grown from 32 teams to 48, who'll play 104 matches before it's all over.
The format changed to fit all those teams: twelve groups of four, with the top two from each group plus the eight best third-place finishers advancing to a new round of 32. From there it's the familiar knockout ladder — round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final on Sunday, July 19 at MetLife Stadium just outside New York City. Win it all from the group stage and a team will have played eight games, one more than in past tournaments.
Where Team USA stands
The U.S. men's national team landed in Group D alongside Paraguay, Australia, and Türkiye. They opened strong, beating Paraguay 4–1 in Los Angeles on June 12, so they head into match two with momentum and a real shot at topping the group. Australia sits right there with them, which makes tomorrow's game matter for seeding heading into the knockout round.
USA vs. Australia: Friday, June 19
The U.S. take on Australia tomorrow at Seattle Stadium. Kickoff is 3:00 p.m. Eastern — that's noon out in Seattle, where the match is actually being played, so don't let the "noon" throw you off if you see it listed that way. For us here in the Louisville metro, it's a mid-afternoon Friday kickoff, which is just about the perfect time to step away and watch a game.

The best place to watch it near Louisville
We'll say it plainly: watch it with us. The Office Cigar Lounge sits in New Albany, Indiana — about seven minutes from downtown Louisville — and we've got the big screens going for the games we care about. We're open Friday from noon to 9 p.m., so the doors are open a full three hours before kickoff. Come early, claim one of the leather chairs upstairs, pick a cigar from the humidor, and settle in for the full ninety.
There's no cover and nothing to reserve for the main lounge — just walk in. We keep coffee and cold soft drinks on hand if you want something to sip while you watch (a Dr Pepper and a Connecticut-shade cigar is a quietly great Friday). If you'd rather host a group for the match — a few friends, coworkers off early, whoever — our private upstairs room can be booked; just give us a little notice. Either way, give us a call at 812-786-7477 if you want us to set a cigar aside before you head over.
The rest of USA's road
After Australia, the U.S. close out the group stage against Türkiye on Thursday, June 25 (10 p.m. ET, back in Los Angeles). Take care of business in these two and they'll carry a strong seed into the round of 32, where the real drama of a 48-team World Cup begins. We'll have the screens on for the big ones the rest of the way — so whether it's a USA knockout match or the July 19 final, you've got a standing invitation.
