If you're in Louisville for one of the big shows at the Kentucky Exposition Center, you already know the drill: walk the floor all day, talk to a hundred people, and then — what? The hotel bar? Here's a better idea, fifteen minutes across the river, where the chairs are leather, the humidor is full, and the conversation outlasts the show.
When the Expo Center floor goes dark, the evening's wide open
The KEC is one of the busiest event centers in the country — 1.2 million square feet that fills up, weekend after weekend, with some of the largest trade shows in the world. But the show floor closes in the late afternoon or early evening. That's the part nobody plans for: you've got a free night in a city you don't really know, a customer or two you'd like to take somewhere, and no good answer for "so where to?"
That answer is The Office Cigar Lounge. We're a premium cigar shop and lounge in New Albany, Indiana — about fifteen minutes from the Expo Center, just over the Sherman Minton Bridge. Full walk-in humidor, a near-private upstairs lounge, big screens for whatever game is on, and the kind of room where a handshake turns into a two-hour conversation.
The shows that bring the whole country to Louisville
Different month, different crowd — but the after-show problem is always the same. A few of the big ones that roll through the Expo Center every year:
- National Farm Machinery Show (February) — the world's largest indoor farm show, over 800 exhibitors, plus the Championship Tractor Pull at night in Freedom Hall. Smoke one before the pull or unwind after.
- Mid-America Trucking Show / MATS (March) — the largest trucking show in North America, three days of exhibits, education, and the PKY Truck Beauty Championship. A lot of road miles deserve a good chair at the end of the day.
- NSRA Street Rod Nationals (August) — the world's premier street rod event, with 10,000-plus rods, customs, and classics. Gearheads and good cigars have always gone together.
- Equip Exposition (October) — the massive outdoor power equipment and landscaping show that takes over the grounds and the parking lot every fall.
- North American International Livestock Exposition (November) — the world's largest all-breed, purebred livestock show, running for weeks.
- Kentucky State Fair, gun & knife shows, quartet conventions, regional sports — the calendar barely takes a week off.
Whatever brought you to town, the evening after looks a lot better with a cigar in hand. And here's a bit of luck: most of these shows run Wednesday through Saturday — exactly the nights we're open until 9.
Why we're the after-show move
We're built for exactly this. You don't need a membership and you don't need a reservation to walk in — just come as you are, straight from the floor, badge lanyard and all. What you'll find:
- A real humidor, not a gas-station rack. The full Arturo Fuente family year-round, OPUS X almost always on the shelf, and dozens of other brands — singles or boxes to take home.
- Big screens in every direction. Whatever's on — college ball, NFL, NBA, a fight — there's a seat with a view.
- Room to actually talk. A near-private upstairs lounge for when you want a quieter corner with a client or a small group.
- Fifteen minutes from the floor. Out the Expo Center, onto I-264, over the Sherman Minton, and you're here. Free parking out front.
In town with clients? Host them here.
This is the part worth circling. If you've got customers, a sales team, or a few key accounts in town for the show, a cigar lounge beats another steakhouse table you can't hear each other across. Our near-private upstairs VIP room is made for exactly this — bachelor parties and golf outings on the weekends, sure, but also client dinners, distributor nights, sales-team wind-downs, and "let's get out of the convention center" hangs during show week.
Reserve the room for the evening, bring your group, and let everyone pick something from the humidor on you. It's a memorable way to close a deal or thank an account — the kind of night people bring up the next time they see you on the floor. Planning ahead? Give us a call at 812-786-7477 and we'll help you set it up, or see the VIP room details.
How to find us from the Expo Center
From the Kentucky Exposition Center (937 Phillips Lane), hop on I-264 West, cross into Indiana over the Sherman Minton Bridge, then take I-265 to the State Street exit (Exit 1), turn right, and head up the hill. We're at 2702 Paoli Pike, New Albany, IN 47150 — figure about fifteen minutes door to door, traffic depending. Full directions are here.
New to cigars and not sure where to start? Read our beginner's guide first, then come let us point you to something good.
One more thing for show week
We post our manufacturer nights and tastings on the events page — if your trip lines up with one, you'll get to meet a brand and try something new while you're in town. Either way: when the floor closes, you know where to point the rental car. We'll have a chair waiting.
